France

These small ceramic figures are called feves, the French word for broad bean. The small figures are baked inside a fragipan pie (Gallette De Roi), traditionally eaten on the epiphany, January 6th, the day which celebrates the arrival of the three kings to the birthplace of Jesus. The person who receives the feve in their portion is 'King" for the day and gets to wear the paper crown which comes with the pie. The pieces are collected year after year with the goal of having the complete nativity, then handing them down from generation to generation. This set was given to me then by my soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Maddy Baker Fuller.
